Description
A day trip to Adadi Mariam and Tiya is a great idea! Adadi Mariam is a 12th-century rock-hewn church located near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This church is known for its unique architecture and stunning frescoes, and it’s believed to be one of the oldest rock-hewn churches in the country.
The church is carved into the side of a hill and features intricate stone carvings and beautiful paintings on its walls. On the same day, you can also visit Tiya, a UNESCO World Heritage site that’s home to 36 ancient stone stele (obelisks) that date back to the 12th century.
The stele are believed to have been used for various purposes, including as tombs, symbols of power, and ritual objects. Both sites offer a glimpse into Ethiopia’s rich history and cultural heritage, making it a fascinating day trip from Addis Ababa.
